All things connect.

humans are not the basics of life on earth. we are just another animal put here to grow. what every you do to hurt the earth your not only hurting the earth but think of how your hurting yourself. everything eventually comes back to you and what you do to it. yes all things are connected so once again let me say that what happens to this earth will sneak up and bite you in the butt on day.

Humans definitely aren't the basis of life. We get caught up thinking we are so important but people don't want to believe that we are just another species who is also going to effected by our own stupidity. I think if people could realize this they would not be so selfish and they would do more to take care of the earth like reduce reuse and recycle things.

I totally agree with you. Humans have become way to arrogant and highstrung not even thinking about the organisms around them.We are all on the same boat and when something bad happens to that boat it affects us all,. We must clean and take care of the boat because once the boat called mother earth is gone, ITS gone. We would all drown and die.

In this quotation his saying that we are all like a food web just like the ecosystem in an envorinment. The change of just one organism in a ecosystem can effect the whole entire ecosystem structures. Meaning that if Human change something in our envoriment of the worldwide ecosystem then, it will eventually effect us in a way. Maybe at first not as much but, as time continues it will impact us majorily in the future.
Yes what comes around goes around and all things in the past come back to haunt you in the future. If we dont start taking care of the planet and animals which substain our, human, lives then we could possibly set the future of the living up for failure. So come on people be above the influence and help protect earth and its' life.

I agree and feel that there is nothing left to say about the way people treat the planet. If people haven't understood the effects of their actions, then there is no hope left for us. Scientists have been preaching for years about the effect we have on the planet. It is up to the people to take action now.

This quote means that what ever we do to the food web won't only hurt other organisms but will hurt us to. This tells us that saving our trees and other Earth resources is important. If we keep cutting down trees and using all of Earth's resource it will not only kill the organisms who need it to survive, it will sooner or later come around and kill us off. We do not control the web of life but the web of life controls us and if we live or not. So please recycle it will help keep us alive. cheers
And I have nothing more to say. Going green has been the main focus of our generation now, but it is not happening fast enough. We need to go green sooner in order to have an effect great enough to reverse the negative effect we've had on the planet from years past. If we don't go green sooner, it may be too late to change.

Chief Seattle of the Duwamish Tribe wrote the following letter to President Pierce after the US Government offered to buy the land where his people lived in 1854 (current day Washington State).

Reflect on the video and select one of the quotations from Chief Seattle listed below. Relate your quotation to the topics covered in class during this past unit and/or this week. In addition to your posted reflection, respond to the postings of TWO of your classmates.

All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man...
the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together.
All things connect.

Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does
to the web, he does to himself.

What the chief said makes alot of sense. When he said "All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man... the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports. ", this ties into the concept of the food web. As a part of the natural web we of life we all use each other to survive. The energy we use, the air we breath, its all the same and from the same source. As we eat animals, which eat plants, we get energy which ultimately comes from the sun, this is a transfer of resources between . Another example of this is the fact that we all live on the same earth and human activities, like pollution and industrialization, also affect not just our living conditions but it also changes the living conditions of natures animals and plant life. "Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." This is arisen from human activity and says that hurting the things around us have the same or greater impact on us than we think, even though it may not affect us directly.
I did not think abouot how the pollution and industrialization affected the food webs... Good job Smile I totally agree with you

All things connect. This quote explins the complexity of life and the cycles on Earth. Anything done to nature will have an effect on human beings because we are a part of nature. Any pollution we produce, or ecosystem we destroy in nature has an adverse reaction on humans; which is why I don't understand why people continue to pollute the land and waste resources. The more forests we cut down, the more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. The more co2 in the atmosphere, the warmer the planet gets. The warmer it gets, more plant and animal species die off. The more species that die off, the less food for us to eat. Eventually, we will die off because of our lack of respect of our land. Chief Seattle's quote was a warning to President Pierce, saying that if the land is not respected and used with care, then Humans can not survive.
I agree that whatever wew do affects ourselves as humans. For example when that oil spill happened people were very concerned when the shrimp and seafood started to get contaminated. I think that the only way people will realize to care for the environment is to show them how their actions affect themselves

calientelabios234 wrote:"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." These 5 sentences have so much meaning to it. This quote saying that humans are not the most important strand of the web here on earth. Each part has its own duty, and if humans think they are superior and do whatever they please, then we the humans are going to reap the consequences. And unfortunately other strands of the dna that do what they are supposed to do reap most of our consequences. This quote is significant because it shows how everything is connected although we are all different, we still have to be cautious about what we do. Smile
I agree with you that humans think we are superior to everything else and have no consequences for our actions. We need to be shown how doing things such as deforestation affects us negativley

This quote basically means that man did not create the Earth or the organisms in it. Who is man, then, to decide what happens to the people in it? Who is man to decide what gets to live and what is destroyed? Whatever man does to the organisms and the life on Earth will just end up coming right back to haunt him.

The saying goes, "You reap what you sew." Man can't control everything and this is one of those things. This isn't a decision of man, its a decision on how man treats this web of life.

It's like a chain reaction. You pull this cord then it sets off another reaction and another until everything is done and nothing else can occur. Thus meaning the end of the world because all living organisms will no longer exist. Leave the food web as it is, there's no need to change it, especially if it's harming it.
